The NCAA Tournament Committee will announce the 2009 tournament field on Sunday, March 15.

The only guarantee at this point is that there will be 65 teams in the field; two will meet on Tuesday, March 17 in the first game of the tournament in Dayton, OH.

While Oklahoma, UConn, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina appear to be the front-runners for the four number one seeds, the results of the conference tournaments will go a long way towards determining the field.

Tonight, Cornell became the first team to officially qualify for the 2009 tournament, wrapping up the Ivy League title with a victory over Penn.  It was the second straight title for the Big Red, ending 20 years of dominance by Penn and Princeton.

Bubble teams who seemingly need a few victories to reach the tourney include Michigan, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and South Carolina.

The list of teams also considered to be on the bubble includes perennial tournament teams Arizona (24 straight appearances) and Kentucky (16 straight appearances), teams with two of the three longest consecutive tournament streaks.  Defending champion Kansas is a lock to extend its streak of appearances to 20.

TourneyTravel.com will update the tournament bracket as results become official.  Game times will be added to the bracket when they become available.
