NCAA Announces Final Four Sites Through 2011

July 1, 2003

The NCAA today announced sites for the Final Four for 2008 through 2011.  The list of cities includes recent hosts San Antonio and Indianapolis as well as relative newcomers Houston and Detroit.

San Antonio's Alamodome, which hosted the Final Four in 1998 and will host again in 2004, will be the site of the 2008 Final Four.  Indianapolis, host of four previous Final Fours (1980, 1991, 1997, 2000), will host again in 2010 at the RCA Dome.  The city had already been selected to host the 2006 event.

Detroit will host its first Final Four in 2009 at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions.

Houston will host the 2011 Final Four, the first time the city has hosted since UCLA won its fifth of seven straight titles at the Astrodome.  Reliant Stadium will host the 2011 event, the first time it will be held at a retractable-roof stadium.

Other previously announced Final Four hosts are St. Louis in 2005 and Atlanta in 2007.

The tournament committee also announced that St. Louis and New Orleans will host first and second round or regional sessions in 2007 or 2008.  Both cities had bid for Final Fours but were not selected.

Additionally, each Final Four site will host a first and second round or regional session in the year prior to hosting the Final Four.
